EEFI, AICWF and PGWFI prepare a confederation of energy-sector federations

The Electricity Employees’ Federation of India, the All India Coal Workers’ Federation and the Petroleum and Gas Workers’ Federation of India have taken the first organised step toward a Confederation of Energy Sector Federations.

A small group of the three federations had met at Thiruvananthapuram on 27 July 2025. The office-bearers then met in full at Ranchi, Jharkhand, on 19–20 July 2026. Comrade Elamaram Kareem chaired the sitting; Comrades G. K. Srivastava and Pradeep Mayekar co-chaired.

The three industries sit on one value chain — from raw material to the last service. Major energy PSUs now work in one another’s fields. Their plants and pipelines occupy the same districts. Workers face the same policy and the same employer methods. The Ranchi meeting treated those facts as the ground for class solidarity beyond the old sector walls.

An Energy Conclave will be convened in Delhi in the last week of November or the first week of December 2026. It may adopt a common policy paper and a Common Charter of Demands for the energy sector, as the basis of a nationwide campaign and of joint action.

A Steering Committee will prepare the Conclave: Comrade Elamaram Kareem, Chairperson; Comrades Swadesh DevRoye, Pradeep Mayekar and G. K. Srivastava, Deputy Chairpersons; Comrades D. D. Ramanandan, Nogen Chutia and Sudip Dutta, Convenors. A joint online meeting in October–November 2026 will fix the last details.

Each federation will place the discussion paper before its Working Committee, extend solidarity to the others’ struggles, and look at organising energy workers of the other two sectors in its own field.

The circular closes on the strategic place of energy workers: if a coordinated joint strike can be organised at the heart of the system, even the most authoritarian force will have to hear that voice. The three General Secretaries call the cadres to prepare for that journey.
