WFTU Working Women Committee: report from India
EEFI placed the condition of women electricity workers — maternity rights, COVID-era exploitation, and the unfinished work of organisation — before the international committee.
The Working Women Committee of the World Federation of Trade Unions met online on 20 March 2023. The Indian report covered the phases of the women’s movement, intensified exploitation during the pandemic, and attacks on maternity and social-security rights.
CITU’s work among working women, and the specific tasks inside the electricity industry — where contract and outsourced women workers remain the most insecure layer — were placed before the meeting. The 10th Conference later adopted a resolution to organise working women and confront patriarchal norms inside the sector.
