Tamil Nadu constituents oppose trifurcation of TANGEDCO
EEFI units submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister and opened a statewide struggle against the circular splitting the utility.

The Government of Tamil Nadu issued a circular for the trifurcation of TANGEDCO. EEFI constituents in the state opposed the move as a step toward unbundling and privatisation of a public utility that still holds together generation and distribution.
A memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister on 12 February 2024. Statewide agitation followed. EEFI holds that splitting the Board is not an administrative reform — it is the same path taken after the Electricity Act, 2003, which left DISCOMs with losses and consumers with higher tariffs.
