Lucknow: twenty thousand electricity employees demand rollback of DISCOM privatisation

On 9 April 2025 Lucknow saw a historic gathering of electricity employees. About twenty thousand workers came from every corner of Uttar Pradesh, many of them on the road for a day and a night, under threat of retrenchment, vigilance cases and police FIRs.

They demanded the rollback of privatisation of the state DISCOMs. The same days saw a mass march of powermen at Ludhiana. Public power is one fight from Punjab to the eastern districts of Uttar Pradesh.

Leaders of NCCOEEE announced the next steps: a northern regional solidarity action on 14 May and a national strike on 20 May. If the privatisation is not withdrawn, Uttar Pradesh electricity employees will go on indefinite strike from 29 May.

EEFI stands with the struggling powermen of Uttar Pradesh. Every state unit is to prepare for that action.
