Stop the privatisation of electricity — Department of Chandigarh (U.T.). A public utility that pays its way is not a market for private licence.

Electricity employees of Chandigarh, with their families and neighbours, came onto the road against the move to privatise the Union Territory’s Electricity Department. Placards in English and Punjabi carried one line: stop the privatisation of electricity.

A department that serves the city and still stands on its accounts is being prepared for a private licensee. EEFI and its Chandigarh constituents treat that sale as an attack on public power and on regular work. The same fight runs in Haryana, Karnataka and every state where a parallel licence is sought.
